Rush Street Neighborhood Grill opened June, 24, 1980 as "The Chicago Dough Company." It was the third Chicago Dough Company opened by Chicago natives Mike Feliu and Mike Rose. The first two locations are in Richton Park, Illinois (1976) and Bourbonnais, Illinois (1977). These were operated as traditional "Chicago Style" pizza and beer establishments. In December 1989 the Kingsport location went through a major physcial and menu renovation and evolved into Rush Street Neighborhood Grill.

With Kingsport's restaurant population growing steadily throughout the 1990s, -Rush Street is now one choice among many. But Mike Feliu is confident many will continue to choose his restaurant, and he likes the competition - and the choices - anyway.

"The pie is getting smaller, but I like to see new things,'' Mike Feliu said. "Jerry and I like to eat out as much as the people who eat here.

"I think the important thing about an independent is that there's an owner-manager presence at the restaurant. If I'm not here, Gerry's here, and 95 percent of the time you're going to come and one or both of us will be here. I have a passion for running the restaurant, the administrative side of it, and Gerry has a passion for making beautiful food."
