Rush Street Neighborhood Grill opened June, 24, 1980 as "The Chicago Dough Company." It was the third Chicago Dough Company opened by Chicago natives Mike Feliu and Mike Rose. The first two locations are in Richton Park, Illinois (1976) and Bourbonnais, Illinois (1977). These were operated as traditional "Chicago Style" pizza and beer establishments. In December 1989 the Kingsport location went through a major physcial and menu renovation and evolved into Rush Street Neighborhood Grill.

"I can remember couples who came in here on their first date, and now they're coming here with their kids."
The same could be said of the employees. It isn't unusual to encounter an employee at Rush Street who has been there more than 10 years.

There are third generation Feliu at Rush Street. The parents of the brothers Feliu now live most of the year in Kingsport, and Mike and his wife, Teresa, added the next generation.
It's that family connection that makes Rush Street what it is, Mike Feliu said. Both Felius are still heavily involved in daily operations, with Gerry running the back of the restaurant and Mike the front. Mike seats customers, still buses an occasional table and still stays in touch with his roots.
"I still make an occasional pizza - that's still the one thing at the restaurant that I'm good at," Mike Feliu said with a laugh. "That's still my favorite place. We've got customers who have been coming in for 25 years who never look at a menu. They just want pizza."
